Spotify labels AI Personas and drops them from recommendations

Spotify just drew a line between making AI music and being recommended for it.
From August 11, 2026, artists can self-disclose as an "AI Persona" inside Spotify for Artists. Spotify is also identifying undisclosed ones itself, using human reviewers and AI detection tools, starting with the most-listened profiles. The badges begin appearing on artist pages this month.
The real policy is what follows the label: by default, AI Personas are excluded from every editorial and algorithmic recommendation — Discover Weekly, radio, the home feed, all of it. Their music surfaces only to listeners who already follow them.
That is a different move to the ones made elsewhere this year that banned AI-generated tracks from charts outright. Spotify isn't stopping anyone from generating or uploading. It is deciding that its own recommendation engine — the thing that actually builds an audience at this scale — will not do the discovery work for an identity it cannot verify as human.
Generation stopped being the bottleneck months ago. Distribution just became the thing AI-generated music has to earn on its own.
