Snap's AR glasses launch on September 16 revealed something bigger than a spec sheet.
Alongside Specs itself — $2,195, two sizes, a 51-degree field of view, shipping this fall in the US, UK and France — Snap unveiled SPECS Intelligence, a proactive AI agent that runs on iPhone and Mac whether or not you own the glasses at all. It tracks appointments, answers questions and helps book flights without being asked.
Connectivity became a subscription too. An optional cellular charging case, bundled for $200 more ($2,395 total), pairs Specs with Verizon in the US, Orange in France and EE in the UK — carrier data plans priced at $10 or $20 a month depending on whether you're already a Verizon customer.
Two moves, one direction: the assistant now exists independently of the hardware, and the hardware now comes with a monthly bill attached. AR glasses are starting to look less like a device purchase and more like a service you subscribe to.
