Pico delays its Space Pro headset nine days before launch

Pico canceled its own hardware launch nine days before it was scheduled to happen.
The company had booked a Beijing stage for September 2 to unveil Space Pro, a mixed-reality headset built around dual 4K micro-OLED panels at roughly 4,000 pixels per inch, a custom vision co-processor, and a chipset Pico says beats Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 by more than double on CPU and GPU. By Pico's own account, hardware and software had already "reached a high level of completion." Then, in final testing, the team found something worth delaying for — pushing the launch to Q4, three weeks before Meta Connect, the one week a year this category gets the most attention.
For years the contest in this category was fought on a spec sheet: pixels per inch, latency, chip generation. A company walking away from its own announced date to fix the experience rather than the hardware is a different kind of signal. It says the silicon was never the hard part.
