Coldplay's Ahmedabad stop in January 2025 added an estimated ₹641 crore to the city's economy in a single weekend — ₹392 crore in direct spend across hotels, transport, restaurants and retail, and ₹72 crore in GST revenue for the government, per figures reported by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
That is one show. India hosted more than 30,000 live events across 300-plus cities in 2024, and the sector crossed ₹12,000 crore in revenue that year, on track to grow at roughly 18% a year and pass ₹23,000 crore by 2027, per the FICCI-EY Media & Entertainment Report.
Attendance used to be the headline number. Increasingly it is what one night does to a city's economy — occupied hotel rooms, full restaurants, a municipal government watching tax receipts move.
At that scale, how a show is produced stops being a matter of taste. It becomes measurable revenue.
