Two AR glasses shipped this year at opposite ends of the same market.
Snap's Specs: standalone AR glasses with dual Snapdragon chips and a 51-degree see-through display, no phone or puck required. $2,195, with a $200 refundable deposit, shipping this fall in the US, UK and France.
X by XREAL's a01: no camera, no battery, a tethered Micro-OLED display running up to 120Hz at 1,600 nits. $299, already on shelves.
Same basic idea, a screen you wear instead of hold, priced more than seven times apart.
That split is not noise. It is what a category looks like once buyers beyond early adopters start showing up: a premium tier for people who want a standalone computer on their face, and a budget tier for people who just want a bigger screen in their bag.
A $299 entry point changes who can afford to experiment with wearable displays at all - and that matters more for where this category goes than either device alone.
